Whatto chaps! Lets ski, ski, ski!

View of Tignes Les Brevieres from the ski slopes
For those big and small, young and old, there is nothing more exciting than a lads ski holiday. A week away from work and time to relax (which in this case means ski, eat and booze booze booze).

This time it was a late deal booked through internet ski giant Iglu Ski. Although unimpressed with the booking itself and the almost invisible rep at the airport, this holiday in Tignes was second to none.

Disclaimer
Before I go any further, may I just add that all the information published here should not necessarily be attributed to my thoughts, opinions and actions.

January is a fantastic time to go skiing - no kids, quiet pistes and you can get roudy without offending too many people. Well, except maybe the guru of skiing Mr. Ali Ross...
Scenic Tignes on the ski slopes
ANYWAY, although Tignes is not the prettiest of resorts, it has plenty of good bars. Depending of what kind of night your wanting (and which part of Tignes your located) there are lots of bars to suit all tastes. We were located in Tignes La Lavachet, one of the quieter areas, but the Brasero and Scotty's Bar kept us content with beer and shots!

After an afternoon's skiing (especially finishing off with Trolles, the ONLY run available to get you back to Tignes La Lavachet), there's nothing better than a pint of cold beer, and the staff and Brasero were always more than happy to help!

For accommodation I cannot reccomend highly enough Chalet Petit Ramo, based in Tignes la Lavachet. The chalet sleeps 12 in total, but if you're like us and don't plan on sleeping much then the food will knock you out. A big 'thank you' to our Kiwi chef Emma, who worked her socks off and provided us with superb food all week. The highlight? Probably being able to sniff her little puddings....

Higher up, the scenery was absolutely superb as you'll see by the photos and the Espace Killy ski area provides a great range of skiing from wide blue runs to house-sized mogulled black runs such as Sache down to the village of Les Brevieres. Takes a while, but definately the run of the week for me.

So, time for a lowdown on the 'professional chat'. The following list is a summary of the antics and stories that made the holiday.

1. Always go for a holiday rep. Except don't take all week to achieve it. Hence the phrase 'Its the way I don't shag them'...

2. Door Love/Door Shagging - a story I will always regret telling my mates and one I will live with as long as their around. However this time it went way too far. HingeorMinge.com is simply not an amusing domain name. End of story.

3. Conversations about relationships are always interesting, especially when you have a mix of 20-somethings and lads who have been through the whole thing. The pro's of marrige?? Companionship my dear boy!

4. For those who haven't seen Team America, one part of it rips the p*ss out of film star Matt Damon. They make him a 'Timmy-esk' half wit who can't say anything but his own name. Mr. Slater - you take the award hands-down.

5. Our rival chalet housed several 'well-to-do-folk', so besides taking on the voice of Wilko, we wandered around sounding like posh idiots all week (oddly enough, we seemed to fit in in Val d'Isere).

So for anyone looking for a great ski holiday, try going with Ski Olympic. If you're going to Tignes, look out for the reps, they're a great bunch.

Update: For more ski holiday chat, fast forward to the Tignes ski holiday of 2007!
